Aspiration

One of these days, I would like to have office hours in a real office. I’d like to have a window that looks onto a lawn, and a bookshelf that’s stocked with the most compelling books I own. The top of the shelf would house the three-foot, giant squid that my sister knitted for me one Christmas. The student chair would be the wooden rocker that my childhood friend painted into a beach scene. And on my desk, I’d keep a candy dish of Every Flavour Beans, so I could occasionally say, “Alas. Earwax.”
