So, I’ve been thinking about The Conjuring for a while, because it’s both a good movie and a horror movie. Those are hard to come by; scary stuff is bloody difficult to write. And although The Conjuring does use lots of old tricks, I have to hand it to a film that does the following. (This is a minor spoiler.) A woman is hanging sheets on the line. The wind picks up. It starts to howl. She starts to remove the sheets before they get ruined. A sheet gets away from her. It flutters through the air. Then it lands, close by, on top a humanoid something that was otherwise invisible. That’s a great scare. It’s an excellent scare. Somebody actually scared me by dressing in a sheet.
